Something odd has been afoot on the App Store with releases recently. Bit City comes out on Monday; Zach Gage’s new game Typeshift comes out on a Saturday; Card Thief has been submitted but they can’t say the release yet. I’ve heard from a couple of devs that something is happening with their games soon that they’re not at liberty to discuss, including some more unorthodox release timing. The reasons have seemed unclear, but the unspoken reason for all this is usually "Apple told us to do this." As to why Apple would do some things beyond them being Apple, weird is what they do, who ever knows? Well, Apple just provided a big reason for all theses shenanigans with the new "Celebrating Indie Games" promotion running from March 9th-20th.

The App Store right now features a varietty of great games from independent developers over the past few years, including a number of classic titles. Mushroom 11 [$4.99] is the first up with editor’s choice, though I bet that’s a revolving slot with some of the announced and unannounced titles. And hmm, I wonder if that sudden Kingdom: New Lands [$9.99] delay that popped up out of nowhere has anything to do with the game’s sudden release! Strangeness is afoot, and I’m sure some interesting games are coming as well…
