It’s finally time

Star Wars Celebration is finally about to kick off, and Disney is hosting a 90-minute opening keynote session today to look back at 40 years of the franchise’s history.

The keynote, which will be led by Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy and actor Warwick Davis, will be more than just a celebration of what has come to pass, however. We’re expecting more announcements about upcoming movies — including a possible focus for the third stand-alone anthology movie — and appearances from different actors.

The only additional information we’re not expecting out of the keynote is anything related to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Kennedy and director Rian Johnson have their own 90-minute panel tomorrow where they’ll hopefully discuss a little more about what we can expect from the second movie in the new trilogy — kickstarted with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There is also a very good chance that we’ll get the first trailer for The Last Jedi; a movie we haven’t seen much of anything from yet.

Star Wars Celebration kicks off today and runs through April 16. Polygon will have ongoing coverage the entire weekend.
