While most users are able to pick up on the basic gameplay loop fairly quickly, Battlegrounds doesn’t offer any tutorial – for those of you just jumping in, here’s what you need to know:

There are between 60 and 100 players in each game.

Last player alive wins.

After you eject from the drop plane, you will have to make your way into a gradually shrinking play area – marked on your map by the white circle.

Fail to enter the designated play area before the countdown timer ends, and you risk being caught outside a radiation barrier. This will cause damage over time, which increases as the game goes on.

Got it? Good. Now, onto more intricate details…

EditDirectional Audio

Incoming sound direction is determined by the direction your camera is facing, not your character.

EditBoost Mode

Vehicles – boats and cars alike – have a boost function. Press and hold the Sprint key (default: LShift) to activate the vehicle’s boosters.

EditYour Trusty Frying Pan

While the Machete may do more damage and the sickle looks really cool, the best melee item you can find is actually the Pan. Not only does it pack a whollop, but when holstered across your lower back it can actually deflect small-caliber bullets!

EditArmor Expands Inventory

In addition to giving you extra protection against incoming fire, armor also boosts your inventory. Each vest, no matter the level, increases your inventory capacity by 50 points.

EditClothes Take up Inventory Space

Everything clothing item you have on takes up inventory space. While some, like backpacks and utility belts, increase your inventory by more space than they take up, most – like coats and boots – take up a bit of additional space.

EditDrive-By Shooting

If you’re playing as part of a team, or have merely forged a fragile alliance with another player, and are in a vehicle, whoever is in the passenger seat(s) can shoot from the window by using the aim button (default: Hold RMB).

EditLine-of-Fire Interference

If you are aiming and notice a red circle appear near or around your aiming reticule, this is indicating that there is an object blocking your weapon, such as a door, tree, crate or other piece of cover you may be using.
