A new game, Light of Hope, is in the works

Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is Natsume’s next game in the 20-year-old farming simulation franchise, and it’s a milestone. Not only is the title heading to PlayStation 4, but it’s also bound for two other consoles: Nintendo Switch and Windows PC, both new territory for the series.

In a press release, company president Hiro Maekawa hinted that Light of Hope would be both an evolution and a return to Harvest Moon’s roots.

That comes across in its familiar logline: The player is out at sea, looking for an adventure, when a monsoon strikes and sinks their ship. After washing ashore in a small town, they’ll assume care of an abandoned lighthouse.

Fixing up a lighthouse sounds quite different than the usual farm scenario. Thankfully, there’s still a promise of crops to tend to and eligible singles to woo.

There are few other details out about Light of Hope yet, but the game will be playable at this year’s E3 conference, so expect a better sense of whether this PC, PS4 and Switch game is a true throwback — to the original Harvest Moon franchise, now known stateside as Story of Seasons — next month.
