One for the fighting gamers, one for the RPG fans

There are two full-length games out on Nintendo Switch eShop — and in stores — this week, making this one of the biggest weeks for the console since launch. Both Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers and Disgaea 5 Complete are coming to Switch, revamping some old-school games for the new system.

Both games have refinements and tweaks to make them new experiences on the Nintendo console. For Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers, there are two new fighters to choose from and a handful of single-player and multiplayer features exclusive to this version of the game. Capcom calls this the newest take on the iconic fighting game in a decade, and the genre has been sorely underrepresented on Switch thus far, so this is a good choice for fans.

On the other side of the spectrum is Disgaea 5 Complete, which could be an intimidating choice for Nintendo fans who haven’t had a chance to play a Disgaea game on a Nintendo console since the first entry. The turn-based, tactical RPG series is friendly enough to newcomers, though, and it’s also well-suited for handhelds. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance came to PlayStation 4 in 2015, so this is the first time players have had the chance to experience it on a portable console. (Well, Remote Play notwithstanding.) New features are light for the Switch version, although it saves players the trouble of having to buy all the game’s downloadable content separately.

E3 2017 is only a few weeks away, so eShop updates and other new releases for the Switch may get lighter until then. At least we have Arms to look forward to on June 16 — and a multiplayer beta that goes live this weekend.
