This indie’s finally coming out

Cuphead will launch Sept. 29 on both Windows 10 and Xbox One. Microsoft announced the release date for long-awaited indie game, which is inspired by old Disney and Max Fleischer cartoons, during its E3 2017 press conference.

The game will cost $19.99 at launch, according to its store listing. It will be compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing for crossplay on Xbox One and Windows 10.

The co-op, run-and-gun sidescroller stars a pair of … well, cupheads who take on a series of bosses in a retro-styled world. It’s got some serious Gunstar Heroes vibes, as we saw at PAX West last summer. This game is one that needs to be seen in motion; check out our gameplay from September 2016 below.

Microsoft announced Cuphead at E3 2014, also during its annual briefing. Its unique art style almost immediately made it a game to keep an eye out for. After initially aiming for a 2016 release, developer MDHR pushed the game into mid-2017 last October.
