Although this isn’t a AAA title releasing with the Xbox One X, Super Lucky’s Tale is still an excellent game to take to show off the power of Microsoft’s newest console. In a video by Digital Foundry, and write-up by Eurogamer, it was found that Super Lucky’s Tale does indeed hit a full 4K resolution and a pretty stable 60 frames-per-second.

Super Lucky’s Tale was one of the many games Microsoft showed off at their conference as being a console-exclusive Xbox One X boosted title. While the game will take advantage of the hardware of the Xbox One X, it will still have no issues running on a base Xbox One or Xbox One S.

Of course, Super Lucky’s Tale doesn’t look like it’ll be the most taxing game and the OG Xbox One should be able to target a 60 frames-per-second as well, but seeing Microsoft’s new console play games at a full 4K resolution with 60 FPS is nothing to scoff at.

VIDEO

Super Lucky’s Tale looks like a more kid friendly Conker’s Bad Fur Day, you actually play as a fox and not a squirrel, but the game is actually a sequel to Lucky’s Tale, an Oculus Rift exclusive. From the looks of things, it looks the game made a smooth transition from VR. The original Lucky’s Tale and its sequel look to continue the trend of recent games by reviving the classic platformers from the N64-era. The game targets and hits a native 4K, something that Anthem was unable to do with its demo at Microsoft’s E3 conference.

There was a certain part in the demo that spawned fireballs that did cause some dips to 50 FPS with consistency but other than that, there weren’t any major framerate drops. The game is still a work-in-progress so it’s entirely possible this issue and others like could be ironed out by release. The vast majority of the game featured a stable framerate which is important. The Eurogamer article suggests the problem with not maintaining a 60 FPS framerate throughout could come with the choice of engine. Unity has notoriously caused problems with current-gen consoles that are targeting 60 FPS, super luckily, the developers have time to figure this thing out.

Super Lucky’s Tale releases November 7, along with the Xbox One X and will also be available on the Windows Store for Windows 10. The title is part of Xbox’s “Play Anywhere” program which means a digital copy will get you both an Xbox One version and a Windows 10 version. The game will be available for $29.99.
