It’s a Windows PC and Xbox One exclusive, full stop

Cuphead, the charming, hand-drawn co-op game that’s been knocking our socks off for years finally announced a release date at this year’s E3. Fans will finally get their hands on it September 29 when it launches exclusively on Windows 10 and Xbox One. Playstation 4 owners hoping to wait it out will be disappointed to hear that the team says it’s simply not coming to that platform.

Following a lengthy write-up on Games Radar last week, Cuphead’s developers showed up on NeoGaf to clear up a few misunderstandings. Chief among them are the terms of their exclusivity with Microsoft.

A reader asked if the game was “100 percent lifetime PC/Microsoft exclusive” to which the Cuphead team gave the following response:

“Yes, this Cuphead game is exclusive to Xbox and PC (with Steam and Win10 versions at launch and a GoG release likely shortly after),” they explained. “There will likely be a Mac version down the road and possibly a Linux version beyond that (unless we lose our houses or whatever).”

The phrasing, as well as the claim that they own the Cuphead intellectual property, seems to indicate that they’re open to putting a sequel on other platforms but for now at least their hands are tied.
