Focus for Netflix continues to be on original content

Netflix has confirmed to Polygon that all eleven seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are leaving the streaming platform in December.

A representative told Polygon that, like Parks & Recreation or 30 Rock, a set period allotted for the series to stream on Netflix had come to an end. The full statement can be read below.

Yes, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia seasons 1-11, will be rolling off the service in December. The license for a TV series or movie is for a set period of time, which means every title eventually comes up for renewal. At that point we take a variety of factors into account to determine if we will extend – in this case, there are no plans to renew this title. As we expand our content portfolio, our goal is to continue offering great movies and TV series for our members, while also providing content that is available exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix’s confirmation comes just months after other 21st Century Fox series began to leave the platform, including Futurama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Bob’s Burgers. Hulu announced earlier in the year that it had signed an exclusivity deal with Fox to stream many of its series, making the departure from Netflix less surprising.

There is no exit date for all eleven seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but expect it to be pretty early on.
