Mode coming soon; sounds like a beta test

Crytek — remember them? — has something new coming to Warface — remember that? It’s the latest game to get on the battle royale train.

In a post on Warface’s blog, developers said a “new, experimental PvP” battle royale mode would be coming in the next update, but “only for a limited time.”

The description sounds like the standard battle royale mode popularized by Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds and parroted by Fortnite and in the upcoming The Darwin Project shown at E3 2017. Everyone for themselves, last one standing, shrinking map to help cull the field.

No other details yet. It’ll offer 11 new achievemebnts though. From the wording, it sounds like Crytek will have this ready before the end of the year.

“Once we have your feedback to act upon, we’ll improve the game mode and it’ll be back!” Crytek wrote, meaning this limited-time preview may be more of a beta.

Warface is one of the few products to survive the publisher’s comprehensive reorganization at the end of 2016, which shut down five studios and sent their developers packing. Crytek, the developer of CryEngine, was once a major name in AAA console and PC development but began moving away from that model with its first reorganization in 2014.

Warface, a free-to-play FPS for Windows PC, launched in 2013. A console version (on Xbox 360) was discontinued in 2015. The game boasted 25 million users at its peak in spring 2014.
