Black Mirror

Logan Lucky

From our Review: In many ways, Logan Lucky comes across as a not-so-subtle nod to the films that Steven Soderbergh made a name for himself in the mainstream world by directing. Specifically, Soderbergh’s latest feels like a distant, slapstick-infused relative to his Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, which maintains the same style and ingenious crime plot that were present in each of those films, but replaces Danny Ocean and his slick, professional crew with some lovable, redneck amateur criminals this time around.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

From our Review: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life comes saddled with all the expectations that the recent glut of TV revival series do — to capture the spark that made the original show so beloved without simply banking on nostalgia.

Luckily, A Year in the Life, which premieres November 25 on Netflix, mostly succeeds in rekindling the original show’s flame thanks to the return of both the show’s original creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino (alongside her husband and executive producer Daniel Palladino) and much of its stellar principal cast.

SOMA – Xbox One Version

Release Date: Friday, December 1, 2017

From our Review of the PC Version: SOMA is an ambitious work of science fiction which grapples with fundamental questions of consciousness, identity, and the relationship between the mind and the body. It feels weighty but never dry or ponderous thanks to an engaging and surprising story. But SOMA is also a work of survival horror, and in this regard slightly less successful. While the scares are unquestionably intense and terrifying – I’d expect nothing less from the developer behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent – the puzzle-solving and exploration elements are much less memorable and produce some unfortunate pacing problems.
