Take-Two Interactive today announced Private Division, a new publishing label for independent developers.

Private Division has already partnered to publish games from five different studios, including an unannounced RPG from Obsidian Entertainment helmed by Fallout co-creators Tim Cainand and Leonard Boyarsky. Its other projects include Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets’ Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, ex-DICE developers’ Project Wight, an unannounced sci-fi first-person shooter from Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, and Kerbal Space Program.

No Private Division games are expected to be released before March 31, 2019, according to Take-Two. Kerbal Space Program‘s Making History expansion, which will be released in late 2018, is the sole exception.

Take-Two SVP and Head of Independent Publishing Michael Worosz said the company has “spent more than two years laying the groundwork for Private Division,” which joins Rockstar Games and 2K as Take-Two’s third publishing label.

Part of that “groundwork” seemingly included the acquisition of Kerbal Space Program back in May. At the time, Worosz called the goofy space flight simulator a “new, long-term franchise” for the publisher.

“We see a growing number of independent studios in our industry creating high quality games based on new IP,” added Worosz, “and our focus is supporting these types of developers and projects, and ultimately bringing incredible experiences to gamers around the world.”
