Response to a fan’s comments on the official Overwatch Twitter account.
Overwatch has had a cosmetics update this week consisting of over 100 items for the 26 heroes.
It seems that the new items are hard to come by, and some players are crying foul, but Blizzard assures players that loot box odds haven’t changed.
The official Overwatch Twitter account responded to a Twitter user suggesting that the odds of getting epics and legendaries has been lowered since the update, stating that wasn’t the case. The user claimed after opening 50 loot boxes, they hadn’t found any of the new items rolled out in the update.
Please keep in mind that unlike during events you’re not guaranteed to get a new item in every box. These items went into the pool of all available items in the base Loot Box.

Thanks to China’s regulatory disclosures for loot boxes, the odds of opening a loot box to find one of the new legendary skins is around one in 11. The random nature of the rewards has countries like Belgium considering banning loot boxes altogether.
On the bright side, duplicate items are a thing of the past, so skins you already own will be removed from the loot tables.
The new items include skins, sprays, player icons, and emotes, and it’s worth noting that you can buy skins individually if the fancy takes you. But as it stands, you should avoid dropping any cash on loot boxes if you’re only after the new skins.
