What was Metropolis like before Superman moved to town? That’s a question that will be answered in the latest original series announced for DC Entertainment’s upcoming streaming service.

Metropolis comes from John Stephens and Danny Cannon–the producers of Gotham, which is set in a pre-Batman Gotham City–and will consist of a 13-episode first season. A synopsis from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV reads, “Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.”

While on the surface, Metropolis sounds a lot like Gotham, there is a major difference. While Batman has yet to arrive in Gotham City on the Fox series, a young Bruce Wayne is one of the main characters. With Metropolis focussing on Lex Luthor and Lois Lane, there will likely be no Clark Kent. Of course, it’s notable that Lois is teaming with someone who will go on to become one of the biggest villains in the DC universe.

Metropolis will go into production later in the year to make a debut in 2019 on DC’s streaming service. It joins other announced series like the live-action Titans, and animated Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn series. A date for the new platform’s release has not been announced.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only Superman-centric show that’s happening. Krypton, which is set before the superhero’s birth, premieres March 21 on Syfy.
