Michael Fassbender will star in Kung Fury, the feature-length sequel to David Sandberg’s cult short film.

THR reports Fassbender has been cast in the movie along with David Hasselhoff, who appeared in the original Kung Fury. No word yet on who Fassbender will be playing. He’ll be joined by Sandberg, who’ll star in and produce the sequel under his Laser Unicorns’ banner.

Sandberg wrote and directed the original 2015 short film, which pays homage to 1980s martial arts and police action movies. Kung Fury broke records on Kickstarter and has gained a large cult following, amassing over 40 million views worldwide. The sequel will begin filming this summer in the U.S. and Europe.

The story is set in 1985 in Miami and follows the greatest police officer of all time, Kung Fury, and his Thundercops police force keeping a watchful eye over the city. However, after the tragic death of a Thundercop, a villain emerges to aid Kung Fuhrer’s (Adolf Hitler) mission to attain the ultimate weapon. It’s up to Kung Fury to travel through space and time and defeat Kung Fuhrer once and for all.

David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Aaron Schmidt will also be producing the project under their KatzSmith Productions banner, which produced Stephen King’s IT. No word yet on who’s directing.
