<p><em>The Last Jedi</em> was the most successful movie of 2017, with a worldwide box office gross of $1.32 billion. The three month turnaround between the theatrical and home entertainment release is even faster than the four month window that 2015&#8217;s <em>The Force Awakens</em> enjoyed, possibly because the next movie in the franchise, <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/solo-a-star-wars-story-new-images-and-story-detail/1100-6456658/"><em>Solo: A Star Wars Story</em></a>, hits theaters in May.</p>
<p>In related news, it was announced earlier this month that<em> Game of Thrones </em>showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-star-wars-movie-series-coming-from-game-of-thr/1100-6456611/">will write and produce a new series of Star Wars movies</a>. Disney confirmed that these films will be separate from the current Skywalker saga and the trilogy of movies that <em><a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-the-last-jedi-review/1100-6455575/">Star Wars: The Last Jedi</a> </em>director <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-the-last-jedi-director-discusses-the-new/1100-6455360/">Rian Johnson is working on</a>.</p>
