Two-man indie developer Sinister Cyclops has announced that Spartan – a 2D action-platformer – will be running and jumping its way onto Nintendo Switch next month.
Inspired by the likes of Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Battletoads, Spartan aims to replicate the brutally challenging platformers of years gone by without resorting to the use of 8-bit graphics. Using a much more modern and fresh aesthetic, the game places you deep inside Sparta, 500 BC, where the city-state’s weapons, armour and gold have mysteriously vanished. As a king and the world’s most fearsome warrior, you (as Leonidas) must set out to discover who is behind the threat, and recover everything that was stolen.

Spartan is scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 1st April in North America, with a price point of $11.99 – European release details are still to be confirmed.
