Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced Serious Sam 4: Project Badass, currently only listed for release on Steam.
Revealed at the Reboot Develop conference this morning, there’s not much to see beyond a teaser trailer, below:
We can infer a little, however. The footage looks to come from an in-game engine (see the slight graphical glitch on the flowers on the left side of the screen at 0:17), and the focus on travelling across the landscape could suggest an open world approach.
The logo also shows a silhouetted Sam surrounded by 8 other figures, which might suggest multiple playable characters, or a multiplayer element.
Croteam says we won’t hear more about the game until E3 2018.
Serious Sam 4 was first hinted at back in 2013, when a Croteam sale through Humble mentioned that all proceeds would go towards funding the game. It’s been quiet since then, with Croteam even correcting us in 2015 to say Serious Sam 4 had never been officially announced.
The last mainline game in the series was Serious Sam 3: BFE, which we called “a game that takes us back to the raw, gory roots of the genre and reminds us why we went all gaga over the concept in the first place“.
