50 percent off if you own Prepare to Die Edition

It’s been a confusing couple of months for Dark Souls fans who already own the game on Windows PC and are considering upgrading to the forthcoming remastered version of FromSoftware’s game. Fans were given conflicting information about whether they’d get a discount on Dark Souls: Remastered if they already owned Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam.

Today, publisher Bandai Namco made it perfectly clear: If you own the original Dark Souls release on Steam, you’ll be able to get Dark Souls: Remastered at a 50 percent discount.

The remastered version of Dark Souls will cost $39.99 when it’s released on PC and consoles in May, so the Remastered version is effectively a $20 upgrade on PC. The two versions will be separate releases on Steam, however, and Bandai Namco plans to delist the Prepare to Die Edition from Valve’s store at some point.

There’s no comparable discount for console owners, as the original Dark Souls is not currently available for those platforms.

Dark Souls: Remastered will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on May 25. The Nintendo Switch version was recently delayed to sometime this summer.

A new look at the re-release is available in the trailer above.
