A “memory issue” is to blame for the delay.
Sea of Thieves upcoming update, Forsaken Shores, has been delayed from its September 19 release date to next Thursday, September 27.
Last Friday, Joe Neate, executive producer of Sea of Thieves, posted a progress update on Forsaken Shores and said they “are currently nearing the end of our polish and bug fixing phase, and our goal is to ensure we deliver a stable, polished and bug-free experience to all our players.”
Also brought up were a few issues that arose with previous updates, such as the “unfortunate spyglass incident” and flying ships, and the team wants to ensure that this launch is as smooth as possible.
A near-final build was sent to the game’s “Pioneers” to be able to test for “bugs and any final feedback points” that need to be ironed out before release. Neate warned that, if bugs and issues are found, the Forsaken Shores update could be delayed a few days.
Today, Neate posted another update and the team did indeed find a “memory issue in the build, which is resulting in an unstable build where a large number of our Pioneers were experiencing crashes.”
Due to this, the Forsaken Shores update will now be launching on September 27 to allow the team to correct the problems discovered this weekend.
During Gamescom 2018, Rare revealed Forsaken Shores and its release date and that it would be bringing a volcanic biome called Devil’s Roar to Sea of Thieves.
Devil’s Roar will be filled with dangers such as tremors, geysers, and boiling water surrounding the island that can be fatal.
