<p>Crysis, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 are now backward-compatible</p>
<p><a href="https://www.polygon.com/game/crysis/4515"><em>Crysis</em></a> is now playable on the Xbox One, along with sequels <a href="https://www.polygon.com/game/crysis-2/1092"><em>Crysis 2</em></a><em> </em>and <a href="https://www.polygon.com/game/crysis-3/2898"><em>Crysis 3</em></a>. News comes courtesy of Microsoft spokesperson Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb today <a href="https://twitter.com/majornelson/status/1052227951922561024">on Twitter</a>.</p>
<p>Crytek’s flagship first-person shooter franchise was famously the benchmark for PC gaming when it launched in 2007. The game dropped just two years into the life cycle of the Xbox 360, leading to jeers from die-hard PC enthusiasts, who asked, “Yeah, but can it run <em>Crysis</em>?” The Xbox 360 port was finally released in October 2011.</p>
<p>News of the addition of the Crysis games only serves to highlight Microsoft’s <a href="https://majornelson.com/blog/xbox-one-backward-compatibility/">impressive list of backward-compatible games</a>. Just last week it added both <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2018/10/9/17955898/metal-gear-solid-2-metal-gear-solid-3-xbox-one-backward-compatible"><em>Metal Gear Solid 2</em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid 3</em></a>. That deep catalogue, along with the expansive Game Pass list of newer titles, both made <a href="https://www.polygon.com/xbox-one/2018/10/5/17548210/best-xbox-one-games">the Polygon Essentials list</a>, a round-up of the must-own titles and key features of the Xbox One.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Crytek has had a difficult few years. In February, <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2018/2/28/17062472/crytek-cevat-yerli-steps-down-new-leadership-ceo">CEO Cevat Yerli stepped down</a>, handing over leadership responsibilities to his brothers Avni and Faruk. Its most recent title was the session-based multiplayer horror shooter <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2018/4/3/17188602/hunt-show-down-pubg-fortnite-horror-battle-royale/comment/469322095"><em>Hunt: Showdown</em></a>. </p>
<p>The company recently made headlines when it filed suit against the team behind the <a href="https://www.polygon.com/game/star-citizen/2822"><em>Star Citizen</em></a><em> </em>project, alleging <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2017/12/13/16774244/crytek-star-citizen-cryengine-lawsuit">breach of contract</a> and <a href="https://www.polygon.com/2017/12/14/16776300/crytek-star-citizen-lawsuit-cig-rsi">conspiracy</a>. The case is currently being litigated in the U.S. court system. A motion by the <em>Star Citizen</em> team to dismiss a portion of the suit was recently vacated by a district court judge, and it is expected to enter the discovery phase soon.</p>
