Guacamelee is an excellent Metroidvania-style action-platformer that tells the story of agave farmer Juan Aguacate, who is in love with the mayor’s daughter. At the beginning of the game, Juan is killed by evil skeleton Carlos Calaca; however, he’s later given a magical luchador mask that allows him to return to the world of the living and fight demonic skeletons in his quest to rescue his true love and save his town.
The game earned an impressive 9/10 in GameSpot’s Guacamelee review for its charming characters and dialogue, great combat, unique visuals, and masterful balance of drama and comedy. "Even if 2D platformers aren’t your thing, Guacamelee’s bound to have something for everyone, whether it’s the humor in the writing and world design, the great combat, or even the ability to transform into a chicken," wrote GameSpot’s Peter Brown. "It’s an excellent ride while it lasts, and with the extra content on board, the PC version is the best way to travel through the troubled town of Pueblucho in style."
