Keanu Reeves is playing a rocker named Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, lead man in a band called Samurai – but according to him, he won’t be doing his owning singing.

We spoke to Reeves during E3 2019, and when we asked if CD Projekt Red was going to have him perform Silverhand’s songs himself, he said “no, they don’t want me to sing,” with a bit of disappointment in his voice.

“They have a rock band that they like,” Reeves explained, “so they’re going to be doing that.” However, he seemed keen on having some part in Silverhand’s music before Cyberpunk 2077’s release in April.

“You know, we have a bit of time, so maybe we’ll see what happens,” Reeves added with a smile. “Maybe the lead singer of the band will let me have some kind of influence in there. We’ll see.” Silverhand will apparently have the most dialogue of any character in the game (besides the player), so what’s a song or two more?

In our interview with him, Reeves also told IGN that CDPR is letting him “collaborate a little bit” on the character, saying that he particularly liked that he could express the physicality of Silverhand through motion capture. “It was part of the attraction of it for me was that it was not only just my face, but they were asking me to perform a role – and a cool one.”
