<small>Kelly Thompson, Carmen Carnero/Marvel Comics</small></p>
<p>Well, she’s a flerken, not a cat, but you get what I’m saying</p>
<p>Marvel’s Absolute Carnage crossover is swiftly approaching, a story where Carnage is seeking to <a href="https://www.polygon.com/comics/2019/7/1/18564751/comics-2019-marvel-dc-x-men-venom-doomsday-clock-joker-harley">kill and consume everyone who has ever been host to a symbiote</a> — which is <em>a lot of people</em>. And that means that the story is being teased in a lot of books around the Marvel Universe, as various secondary characters run into Carnage and are devoured. </p>
<p>This week, that apparently includes &#8230; Captain Marvel’s adorable pet flerken, Chewie??? (Chewie is called Goose in the <em>Captain Marvel</em> movie.)</p>
<p>What else is happening in the pages of our favorite comics? We’ll tell you. Welcome to Polygon’s weekly list of the books that our comics editor enjoyed this past week. It’s part society pages of superhero lives, part reading recommendations, part “look at this cool art.” There may be some spoilers. There may not be enough context. Let’s start get started!</p>

<h2><strong>Captain Marvel #8</strong></h2>

<p>Pray for Chewie. </p>
<h2><strong>Teen Titans #32</strong></h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Holographic Lex Luthor makes an offer to Lobo in Teen Titans #32, DC Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/Imea_4Sqb3XnA3eIfI_NxJMHbTE=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325314/IMG_AB13601BC1FC_1.jpeg"><br />
<cite>Adam Glass, Bernard Chang/DC Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p>After the Teen Titans defeated Lobo — the deadbeat dad of their teammate, Crush — they weren’t sure what to do with him, so they tied him to a tractor and yeeted him to the moon. </p>
<p>I’m so proud of them. </p>
<h2><strong>Assassin Nation #5</strong></h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Hitman Fuck Tarkington gets roughed up by rival Taipan in Assassin Nation #5, Image Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/zM1crc8MdsWoYzWCArKDa976NM0=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325313/IMG_2050.jpg"><br />
<cite>Kyle Starks, Erica Henderson/Image Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p>The page of <em>Assassin Nation</em> #5 that made me start chanting “Yes. Yes. YES. YES. YES. YES!” is full of spoilers, so have the really incredible sound effects of this scene of 5th best assassin in the world, Fuck Tarkington, getting his entire business completely rocked. SLAM TOWN!</p>
<h2>
<strong>Blade</strong><strong> Runner 2019 #1</strong><br />
</h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Detective Aahna Ashiina captures a replicant in Blade Runner 2019, Titan Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/rete4j7MmwuWh24nQC-kafkSN54=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325312/IMG_2049.jpg"><br />
<cite>Michael Green, Mike Johnson, Andres Guinaldo/Titan Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p><em>Blade Runner 2019</em> follows one of the first generation of blade runners, just after replicants were declared illegal on Earth, and it sucked me right in. Definitely pick it up if you’re into <em>Blade Runner</em> but wish it had more women with agency. </p>
<h2><strong>Aquaman #50</strong></h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Wonder Woman talks to some reporters about hospitality and xenophobia in Aquaman #50, DC Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/3MNfhU77rFZXJExk_X2EDOpDsHg=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325310/IMG_872E1D3FDCFB_1.jpeg"><br />
<cite>Kelly Sue DeConnick, Robson Rocha, Eduardo Pansica/DC Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p>Everyone stop talking, Kelly Sue “Bitch Planet” DeConnick wrote Wonder Woman in last week’s <em>Aquaman</em>. </p>
<h2><strong>Silver Surfer Black #2</strong></h2>
<figure>
<img alt="The Silver Surfer flees through space from the dark god Knull, who is riding a symbiote-dragon, in Silver Surfer Black #2, Marvel Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/LrRrK56HobLk3BLjAtI3he5qoUE=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325309/IMG_227A01780AA1_1.jpeg"><br />
<cite>Donny Cates, Tradd Moore/Marvel Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p>Tradd Moore is absolutely murdering me with every issue of <em>Silver Surfer Black</em>. </p>
<h2>
<strong>Superman</strong><strong>’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #1</strong><br />
</h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Perry White realizes that Jimmy Olsen’s dumb videos are the only thing that’s keeping the Daily Planet in the black in Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #1, DC Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/cfLImBFDVA3Vmgg_wr9xGmOda3g=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325308/IMG_8AF02191ED2E_1.jpeg"><br />
<cite>Matt Fraction, Steve Lieber/DC Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p><em>Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen</em> is what happens when half the team behind <em>Hawkeye</em> goes full Kirby. That’s a good thing. </p>
<h2>
<strong>Batman</strong><strong> #75</strong><br />
</h2>
<figure>
<img alt="Detectives Riddler and Joker in the precinct office in Batman #75, DC Comics (2019). " src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/tr9jXALdQILo9yM8n3SaYwLa6HU=/800x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/18325307/IMG_0EAFB712F63E_1.jpeg"><br />
<cite>Tom King, Mitch Gerads/DC Comics</cite><br />
</figure>
<p>Forget inmates running the Asylum: In our first look at the much hyped “City of Bane” arc of <em>Batman</em>, Bane has used the Psychopirate’s mind control to turn all the villains of Gotham to his will, finally bringing order to the city — and brutally stamping out all resistance. </p>
