Frozen II opened last weekend to huge numbers, earning $127 million domestically and $350 million worldwide. The film has shown no signs of slowing down in its second weekend, posting record-breaking figures over the Thanksgiving break. It wasn’t the only film to find success this weekend, though, with Knives Out enjoying a huge opening, and Queen & Slim also turning in a respectable first weekend result.

Frozen II has broken the 3-day and 5-day records for Thanksgiving in its second weekend; according to Box Office Mojo, it made $85.2 million from Friday to Sunday and an enormous $123.7 million from Wednesday to Sunday. Frozen II has now made $738,573,344 worldwide, and is well on its way to topping $1 billion. The original Frozen made $1.27 billion over its run, and it’ll be interesting to see if Frozen II can top that. It will almost certainly retain the top spot next weekend too, with Playmobil: The Movie, the only wide release that will go up against it, having received terrible reviews.

In second place, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson’s new film Knives Out enjoyed a huge opening. It pulled in $41.7 million over the five days, plus another $28.3 million internationally. With an estimated budget of around $40 million, fantastic word-of-mouth, and excellent reviews (we gave it a 9/10,) the film is likely to continue performing over the weeks ahead. 68% of the movie’s audience was aged over 25, suggesting that it played well as counter-programming to the younger-focused Frozen II.

The other new major release over Thanksgiving, Queen & Slim, brought in $15.8 million over the five days. The film, which stars Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) as "Slim" and Jodie Turner-Smith (The Neon Demon) as "Queen", was written by Lena Waithe and made by first-time director Melina Matsoukas. It’s a strong debut for the low-budget romantic film, which sees a young couple going on the run after things go wrong on a first date.

Elsewhere in the charts, Ford v Ferrari made $19 million over three days, while A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring Tom Hanks as Mr Rogers, brought in $17.3 million in the same frame. Both films have held well since release. Charlie’s Angels, meanwhile, has dropped out of the top 10.

Here are the three-day box office figures for the weekend of November 29-December 1.
