Maybe an adaptation of a video game that adapts movies isn’t such a hot project?

Another year — another decade — another director gone from the Uncharted movie.

Deadline reported this weekend that Travis Knight, who directed last year’s Transformers prequel Bumblebee, is off the project. He is the sixth director to be attached to and leave the film since the adaptation was publicly floated in 2007.

Deadline said that Tom Holland’s obligation to shoot the next Spider-Man flick is the reason Knight is leaving the project. Holland is still attached to the picture, as are Atlas Entertainment and Avi and Ari Arad’s Arad Productions. PlayStation Productions, a Sony division set up last spring, is in charge of the whole thing.

Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), in August, was the previous director to quit on Uncharted, joining David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), Neil Burger (three episodes of TV’s Billions), Seth Gordon (executive producer, Pixels) and Shawn Levy (producer, Arrival) in saying no thanks.

The Uncharted movie is said to be a prequel to the game’s narrative, which began in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on PlayStation 3. Original concepts had an A-list cast involving Mark Wahlberg (still aboard) as a family of antiquities experts who “metes out justice,” as Russell put it.

For those jonesing for Uncharted meantime, it’s in the Uncharted Collection, comprising the series’ first three games, which is now available to PlayStation Plus subscribers this month.
