Melbourne has high expectations when it comes down to coffee.
On one street you might find 5 coffee shops and all roast their own beans and make coffee in every possible way: cold drip, hot drip, aeropress, coffee machine, brew stations and on, and on, and on. Customers are expecting the best coffee: almond magic with latte art which is matching the latest coffee trends from the World Barista Championships; or may be organic Fair Trade dirty chai or Natural process beans from Kenya served in Chemex??? Everything you can imagine… and even much more than that.
But there is a price for indulgence. Coffee in Melbourne is expensive, strong and traded like a liquid gold.

I think anytime soon coffee will become a currency by itself. If you buy something considerably expensive a salesman would likely to tell you that it costs as much as one latte a day for a year or something like that. My latest example was in a shop where salesman said: “Think different. Imagine that this iron costs as much as two lattes a day for a few weeks…. may be for 6 or so…”

Hmmm…  For me it sounds like: “Don’t worry, it costs something like 1/64 of your diamond! And diamonds are so small!”. Small part of expensive thing is still expensive.

Knowing where coffee comes from, how many beans are required for one cup of coffee and how much it costs, purchase of one iron make me feel like a coffee plantation owner with a village of slaves. That’s how much one cup of coffee can influence on my imagination.

Drink gold-feel gold!

Кофе в Австралии самый популярный напиток после воды из-под крана. Но, наверное, и самый дорогой. Алкоголь не в счет, этот беверидж вне времени вне конкуренции.

А кофе? Кофе в Австралии – престиж, время препровождение, повод для знакомства, для снобизма, идиотизма и необходимизма. А еще это валюта – коричневое золото – является мерилом продаж на рынке нестандартных товаров. Покупаете пылесос, а продавец вам: “Это всего лишь стоимость одного кофе в день на протяжение нескольких месяцев” и ты говоришь: ” Пустяк”, а подсознательно понимаешь, что эта покупка будет дорогой, и невкусной.

Измеряя мою жизнь чашками кофе, я почти сознательно закладываю в нее вкусовой подтекст. Но самое интересное в этом контексте то, что он ещё и легконаркотический.
