“What do you mean, plan for tonight?”

“Yes. Are you going out?”- she was very enthusiastic so I figured out that “going out” is a thing to do, otherwise the whole effort of having my hair done (just a cut and colour) is wasted. Too much money for nothing.

“No -o-o”.

“Shopping?” – she was less exited, but I got a last chance. Looks like there is a need to be seen here. You better show your hair, girrrrrl, you better value my 3 hours of work….

“What a strange concept, – I thought, – like if a sales assistant would except only groomed and glamorous people in the shop and others wouldn’t be welcome? Are we apparently not shopping for needs and pleasure, but getting beautiful TO GO shopping? Hmmm…I can survive without that “oh -so- valuable opinion” of a random sales person, -that’s what I thought, but I said: “Hmm, I had a big night yesterday, I feel like I need a rest”. I tried to guess if this answer is any sort of o.k. for her.

She raised her eyebrows and look at me seriously: “Are you going to bed?” -she asked and I understood that I’ve never disappointed a person so badly before.

“Don’t know yet” – back up! Back up, girrrl! Well… why? Why should I back up and what’s wrong with it? -“I think I might”, – I answered to her.

That was brave.

Unnecessarily brave.

No more talking for the rest of our time together and only “have fun sleeping” at the end.

Well, if you don’t want to disappoint your hairdresser and make her respect you – don’t tell her the truth, because neither does she…. All those years I was tricked thinking that this person is very understanding.

[In reality, I just always feel like my hairdresser has certain expectations towards life and how things should be done… it is hard to be yourself and not to slip on the same level of “understanding”. Hard, but very rewarding.]
