Well, it is quite staggering how incredibly “HOT” this technique has become in the last while. Everyone is talking about using rulers for free motion work on regular stationary sewing machines.  Using rulers with long arm quilting machines on a frame has been done for a long time. But what is really “hot” right now is using the same sort of rulers long-armers use to free motion straight lines, circles, scallops and all sorts of shapes…..but this is done on any stationary sewing machine where you move the fabric & ruler instead of the machine across the frame.

I am getting SO many phone call; emails and blog queries that I thought I should do another blog post on this topic.

Also: you might be aware of the website http://www.craftsy.com. Just a week or so ago, Amy Johnson’s class on Ruler work became available for purchase. I bought it and found it pretty good. Amy has been doing ruler work for a couple of years and she is a Janome fan – she actually uses the Janome MC8200 in her online class and shows the “ruler” foot I will feature today. You might like to investigate this online course.

THIS is the foot that everyone is calling the “ruler” foot. It was actually made for the Janome 1600P straight stitch machine. However, we have found that it works wonderfully well when attached to the bottom of the CONVERTIBLE FREE MOTION FOOT SET.  So you have to start there. Some of our machines come standard with this Convertible Free motion foot set. Some don’t & you will need to purchase it from your local Janome dealer. Please be sure to buy the correct one for your machine model as follows:

1. LOW shank machines with 7mm wide stitching  Convertible Free Motion foot set Part # 202002004
2. HIGH shank machines 7mm wide stitching Convertible Free motion foot set Part# 202001003
3. HIGH shank machines 9mm wide stitching Convertible Free Motion foot set Part# 202146001
4. Please note that Janome is not recommending the use of this Convertible Free motion foot and “ruler foot” attachment for machine models which have automatic presser foot lift as there is a chance that the foot could go up too high in the auto presser foot lift function and cause damage. Warranty will not cover damage caused by using these feet on models with Auto presser foot lift: Janome Mc12000, Mc15000 and Skyline S7.
