Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and if you’re like me, you like to set a lovely table for that special day. I have just the solution! These no binding self mitered placemats are so quick to do and you can customize them for any special occasion, just by selecting an occasion-appropriate fabric.

I used my Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP to make these placemats and the HP foot and needle plate made the piecing very accurate. I just love this combination when I’m stitching my 1/4″ seams!

One of the reasons I love creating these placemats is that you can make them any size you want. If you want them larger with a narrower “binding”, you can do that. If you would like them to be smaller with a larger “binding”, you can do that too. Totally customizable and totally simple to make – a winning combination!

Another reason I enjoy making them is because I get to practise quilting on the centre part of the placemat. You can choose to try out some free motion quilting designs or use the walking foot on your Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP for some straight line quilting. I’ve made these placemats with both types of quilting and I’ve found that the automatic thread cutter on the Janome 9400 is a real timesaver when I’ve been using my Acufeed flex/walking foot for my quilting – and the threads don’t tangle when I start to stitch again.
