A choice of different buttonhole stitches is offered so refer to the instruction book of the machine to choose the right one for the fabric and the style of your garment. It is also advisable to study the buttonhole foot before using it and, above all, test sew the button hole on a scrap of the same fabric as the garment.

When the fabric is flat, like the front of a blouse, it is easy to make the buttonholes, but at a place like on a collar, there are seams adding to the  thickness with the foot having to sew on various thicknesses of the fabric. In this case, the stabilizer plate should be used. The fabric is placed between the plate and the foot, and the buttonhole sews without any problem.

You can now also sew the button onto the fabric. Janome has a number of models which offer this function. The Button sewing T-foot must be attached to the  ankle and the feed dogs need to be dropped. Some of our Janome models do this automatically, or prompt you with helpful steps, when you select the button sewing program

To attach the button without difficulty, you need a pin  or toothpick to lift it. Just insert a this between the blue rubber of the foot and the button to create this little bit of extra space.

You can choose to place the fabric horizontally, vertically or at an angle to sew buttonholes; it all depends on the style of clothing and your taste.
