I had the privilege of receiving the new Janome C30 Computerized Sewing Machine recently. Let me tell you, it is a fantastic little machine. Who knew that so many fantastic features were all bundled up inside a portable and lightweight machine! (Well, Janome did lol!!). This machine has amazing value. Let me share with you some of the things I learned about it!

The Janome C30 comes with 30 stitches, including a button hole, stretch stitches, seam finishing, applique and even satin stitches. It’s perfect for someone just starting out sewing, and also for taking to classes. It is so lightweight,weighing just 11 pounds.

When I first started sewing, I wanted to make Barbie clothes, and doll clothes, and even tried some beginner quilting projects. I wish I had this machine for all of that. From the easy to change presser feet, to the well written manual, it has something for everyone.

I made an heirloom style doll dress for my daughter. (She has a MapleLea doll, which is similar to an American Girl doll). Even dolls need adorable summer clothes, right? Using stitch number 29 on the machine, I sewed some satin scallops and then trimmed the edges to make the top and the bottom edge finishes on the little dress.

To apply the elastic for some faux smocking, I used stitch 16 for that. It’s a really good way to add elastic without fussing with a casing and then threading it through. You could even make undies with this machine, because #16 can be adjusted for the width of your elastic.

The other little project I did while testing out and using this machine was a self-lined zipper pouch. First I created a fabric tube, and then stitched my zipper to either short end of the fabric (my fabric started out at approximately 10″ wide and 20″ long). The straight stitch (#1) was perfect for this.

Once my zipper was installed, I used stitch #02 to close the ends of my pouch. This stitch is really great for positioning your fabric all the way under the presser foot to begin, because it automatically does a backstitch at the beginning. It’s a really good way to help avoid your fabric bunching up at the start of a seam.

#11 was used after the edges were trimmed to finish the raw edges and keep them neat and tidy inside the pouch.

I highly recommend this machine to sewists of all ages, no matter your skill level.
