I know when I’m buying a new sewing machine I’m wowed by all the features which sells me on the machine. Then I get it home and I’m so excited to start sewing and I get so wrapped up in projects that I forget to dig into all the cool features that sold me on the machine in the first place. Any one else with me? If so, don’t worry, I’ve got you.
One of the cool features I love on the Janome Memory Craft 8200 QCP is the programmable stitch pattern combo. This feature is on many of our other Janome machines as well such as the Janome Memory Craft 6700P, MC6650 and Janome’s Skyline Series – to mention a few. I feel like this is pivotal in making customized pieces. You can make your very own signature stitch pattern! This feature lets you combine up to 50 stitches!!! 50!!
How to program a stitch combo
The possibilities for stitch combos are endless so jump in and have some fun. The steps are super easy.
Keep adding stitches until you have your combo fully selected. You can view your combination on the screen by using the arrows just above the numbers/key pad on the screen. Then start stitching! It’s that easy. This pattern will keep repeating until you press the start/stop button which will stop your stitch immediately or if you press auto lock button it will complete the current stitch and add a lock stitch at the end.
Some cool things you can add in:
You can program a lock stitch in by using stitch 93 (mode 1 or 2). This will only stitch out your programmed stitch pattern once and then lock or tie off and stop.
To program and automatic cutting of the thread at the end of your stitching: press the Auto Thread Cutting button on the touch pad while programming your stitch.
Mirror image stitches can add so much more interest to your pattern. While programming the stitch you want mirrored press the mirror image key before pressing the memory key (which is the black and white half circles icon to the left of the SET icon).
Bridge stitches are straight stitches that you can add between stitches to create space and spread your fancy stitches out. These stitches are #’s 37-41 in Mode 2. These bridging stitches can be snipped and removed later should you wish not to see the connecting stitches as the stitches are automatically tied off or locked at each end of the bridging stitches.
Letters are great for stitching little messages, labeling items and for adding quick monograms. Program in letters just like you did above. Stitches 97, 98 & 99 are spaces.
Editing Stitch Combos
You’ve been inputting your stitches and then realize you forgot to add a stitch….. Do not fear! You can add these in. The LCD screen only shows one stitch at a time but you can use the arrow keys to scroll through what you already programmed.
Deleting a stitch
Scroll through until the blinking cursor is under the stitch you would like to delete then press the ‘C’ key
Adding a stitch
The new stitch will be added before the stitch that is currently on the screen with the cursor under it. When you have the cursor on the stitch that will be after the stitch you are adding. simply key in the number of the stitch and then press the ‘M’ key.
Repeating a stitch
Place the cursor under the stitch that you would like to repeat and simply press the ‘M’ key. Easy Peasy!
Clear it all
If you are done with a pattern and want to start a new one press and hold the ‘C’ and keep pressing until you hear a beep.
