<![CDATA[Saturday Sewing – Hanging Tea Towels]]>An easy, quick gift is a hanging tea towel. I started making them to keep on hand as a really nice emergency gift. I picked up a tea towel at the Dollar Store for $2.00; add a bottle of hand soap and you have a lovely gift.

I cut the towel in 2 pieces. Once the towel is cut, the cut edge needs to be finished off so it doesn’t fray. You can pull out the serger, but for a quick job, you can change the foot on your sewing machine. The M foot is awesome. It is also called the Over Edge or Overcast Foot, and comes with many Janome machines. This creates a stitch that looks like a serger stitch.

I used stitch #16 on the Janome Continental M7, but many Janome machines have these same overcast stitches
I quickly sewed the cut edge.

I centered and pinned the crocheted top to one half of the towel. You can sew, knit or crochet the top piece. I used the AcuFeed Flex Twin/Dual foot holder with the standard AD foot on the Janome Continental M7. and it went through the towel and crochet top with ease. It can sew thru 8 layers of denim! I’ve done it, I know it works!

I now have 2 lovely gifts.
