He was equally skilled on tenor and alto, also utilizing the Varitone sax on a couple of his albums during his peak years.<a href="https://jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg"><img loading="lazy" data-attachment-id="446" data-permalink="https://jazzatelier.com/2008/10/20/cold-duck-time-rusty-briant/rustybryant/" data-orig-file="https://jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg" data-orig-size="288,288" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="rustybryant" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg?w=288" data-large-file="https://jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg?w=288" class="alignright size-full wp-image-446" title="rustybryant" src="https://i0.wp.com/jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg" alt="" width="288" height="288" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg 288w, https://i0.wp.com/jazzatelier.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/rustybryant.jpg?w=96&amp;h=96 96w" sizes="(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px" /></a></p>
<p>1970&#8217;s &#8220;Soul Liberation&#8221; reconvenes the players from Earland&#8217;s classic 1969 release &#8220;Black Talk!&#8221;, with Bryant taking over the tenor spot from &#8220;Black Talk!&#8221;&#8216;s Houston Person. Earland does a superb job of building tension and driving dynamics into the mix. Teamed with Muhammad, he unleashes an irresistible juggernaut of jackhammering syncopation. Sparks, always a welcome presence, contributes his earthy yet sophisticated rhythm and bop.</p>
