There is an Easter Egg you can select that will allow Akuma to wear the armor as just armor instead of being lava man with armor. This is how it goes.

“By inputting the Easter egg code, Akuma looks like his old self. Of course, Akuma is still wearing Garuda’s armor with this code inputted.

To perform the Easter egg code, simply hold light punch, medium punch, heavy punch, light kick and up at the character select screen. Remember that this can also be done between rounds.”
