I enjoy a good love song, my wife often jokes about my rather unusual love for Italian and Spanish romantic songs because she hates them, but then I also enjoy songs about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Hard to explain? Well, not really.

I was raised with my older sister who loved romantic songs, so after years hearing what my teenager sister enjoyed on her JVC ghetto blaster, I kind started to enjoy it also, it became my hidden guilty pleasure.

So what happens when you enjoy romantic songs?
Well, nothing really, but it kind sucks when your peers are not into those songs. Music is a personal thing so I never had to explain why I enjoyed love songs, then again very few people knew I liked them in the first place.
I did enjoy hanging out with my friends who had different taste for music and their songs kind rub into me.

So what did my friends enjoy during my teens?
Well, some pop and lot’s of metal. After a while, I kind put the Italian and Spanish stuff on the back burner and metal became my favorite type of music. I was never a Marilyn Manson fan like one of the guys was, but I didn’t mind hearing it at all, after a while I was enjoying Kamelot, Angra, Luca Turilli, Nightwish, Within Temptations, Lacuna Coil, Epica and behemoths like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motörhead, AC/DC, Manowar etc.

So metal shares a special place in my romantic heart, and my love for different styles of music made me fall in love for videogame and anime soundtracks.

If you ever had the pleasure to hear the soundtracks from Halo, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, FLCL, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away (which is by far my wife’s favorite anime score), you’ll understand what I’m saying about the different styles of music
If I have to point out music I explored alone without much peer influence, it would be movie and anime soundtracks.

Deep down I love music and I’m still discovering old classics I didn’t pay much attention to, like some of the Michael Jackson albums.
When I pushed the Spotify kill switch I knew I would have to once again explore music on my own, algorithms can only show you so much.

A romantic anime I’m enjoying a little too much these days is Kaguya-sama: Love is war. The manga is better than the anime, but the anime has the narrator’s voice and I love that narrator. 😀
