I run the Update Project, whose mission is to help decisionmakers make their models of the world more accurate.

I’m writing a book for Portfolio/Penguin Books, about how to improve your judgment by reshaping your unconscious motivations.

I often give talks at companies and conferences; contact me if you’re interested in inviting me to speak. Here’s a short talk of mine on TED.com that conveys what I’m passionate about.

In 2012 I co-founded the Center for Applied Rationality, a non-profit that runs workshops on improving reasoning and decisionmaking.

Since 2010, I’ve hosted the Rationally Speaking Podcast, a biweekly show featuring conversations with scientists, social scientists, and philosophers.

I majored in statistics at Columbia, then worked as a research assistant for several professors of social science, and as a casewriter at Harvard Business School. Later I moved back to New York and worked as a freelance writer for publications like Slate, Scientific American, Metropolis, and Popular Science.

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.
