A mage mercenary who is from a line of mountain hermits
He is the grandson of Niime, the expert in ancient magic –but he is a mage soldier who practices anima magic. He was employed by the Eturian Rebel Army, but his contractor fled. Having been left behind, he came into contact with Roy. He formed a new contract and joined the United Lycian Army. Despite his persistent payment negotiation in the middle of battle, he is a good-natured person.

Despite being a successor to his grandmother, Niime, Hugh felt he lacked the ability to utilize dark magic, and switched to anima magic. The reason for that was he had met Lleu who mastered dark magic despite being self-taught.
It was not just that, but also because Lleu had made off with the Nosferatu tome. Perhaps, his money hungry habit was influenced by the studious and dedicated Lleu. In that case, the meeting with Lleu could be said to have been an important turning point.

山の隠者の血を引く傭兵魔道士
　古代魔法の大家ニイメの孫だが、なぜか理魔法を得意としている魔道士。エトルリアの反乱軍に雇われていたが、雇用主が逃亡し、捨て石にされそうになったためロイと接触。新たに契約してリキア同盟軍に参加した。戦場で契約金の交渉をするなど金にうるさいが、意外にお人好しだ。

　それだけならいいが、レイにはリザイアの魔道書も持ち逃げされている。もしかしたら、ヒュウがお金にうるさいのは、レイに食らった手痛い人生勉強の影響かも。そう考えると、レイとの出会いは大きな転機だったといえる。
