Today’s post is another smaller one and looks into the Golf Outfit in Super Mario Odyssey. It’s part of an ongoing series of comparison from the game both by request and personal curiosity.
A lot of patterns are repeated from previous posts, so I recommend reading them or else my commentary may seem a little short (as I’m avoiding repeating myself every post).

Like previous posts have shown, localization through this game ups the straightforward Japanese description with colorful flair.
The Japanese here you can actually see has the same descriptor in both lines, in this case, “showy stripes that turn heads.”
Localization here got the “head turning” across with the “staring at your hat,” but otherwise is rather liberal with this one compared to some of the others. Likely to avoid a redundant description, they seem to have had some fun with the second line that emphasized just how flashy and showy that outfit turns out to be!
It does manage to get the same intent across (that these are showy/flashy clothes), but quite a lot more emphasis in the localization.
Whether it was a good or bad decision is up for you to decide!
