King County Elections Director Julie Wise, King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert, and Michelle Drovdhal of the King County Library System, celebrate the opening of the ballot drop box at the Fall City Library.
King County Elections has opened 11 new ballot drop boxes in time for the August 1 Primary Election! Several of the new ballot drop-off locations received a drop box for the first time, including the Central District in Seattle, Fall City, Kenmore, Mercer Island, Newcastle, and Tukwila. King County now has a total of 54 drop boxes. About 94 percent of county residents live within 3 miles of a drop box.
Over the past year and a half, we have added 44 ballot drop boxes across King County, with plans to add more. Additional drop boxes will be installed in two more phases prior to the 2018 and 2019 primary elections.
So, how do we choose what communities get a drop box? Locations for new drop boxes are based on specific conditions. The criteria include geographically isolated or culturally distinct communities that have lower than average voter registration rates. You can read more about our drop box expansion plan here.

Return your Primary Election ballot at a drop box by 8 p.m. August 1 or mail it with a postmark. We’re projecting a 38 percent voter turnout rate for the Primary Election. Election results will be posted by 8:30 p.m. Election Day.
