<![CDATA[The Street Art & Graffiti Paint Jam For The ‘We Are Croydon’ Block Party]]>After a little spell away from the scene we here at London Calling Blog were delighted to get back out on the streets for the ‘We Are Croydon’ Block Party put on in St George’s Walk encompassing live music, DJ’s, street performance and an exhibition of local artists – which runs until August 13th – and most importantly for us a total of twenty-three Street Artists and Graffiri writers comprising some of London’s finest painters, as well as a couple of visiting international artists joining the fun, all descending on Croydon’s Arts Quarter for a rather impromptu Paint Jam which we are delighted to say we had the extreme pleasure of organizing.

Certainly an interesting canvas by any stretch, with the rather brutal and domineering 1960’s architecture providing a striking contrast for the many colourful artworks adorning its lower walls. It’s really hard to do so without sounding bias, but for us and we are fairly certain all those involved would agree, a fun time was had by all in attendance. It was a great day with beautiful sunshine, conversation and humour all punctuated and revolving around the magnificent array of artworks we got to see created in this corner of Croydon.

As is often the case we couldn’t do what we do here without the help we receive from the artists and friends we have made along the way and this latest endeavor was no exception. With that in mind we would like to say thanks firstly and fore-most to all the artists who took part in the Paint Jam, something we can’t say thank you for enough. You all did an awesome job and we couldn’t be happier with the turn out and talent on display.

Additionally thank you to everyone else who turned out and spent the day with us, great to see so many familiar faces through the weekend and share the moment, it was a pleasure for us. Finally, thanks to Spike_ML, Tanya Nash Photography, Street Art Atlas, Wandster, Ch4bear, Kat, Not Banksy Forum, Bablu, Leanderpanda and Line And Wash. Though not present but not forgotten, thanks to M Frenchi for all the support and ideas behind the scenes, this paint jam being no exception. Last but no bit least thank you to Pigment for the help and support with sending Angerami our way. As well as thank you to Fanakapan for sending Cloakwork our way. Much appreciated both of you.

As night draws in people are still painting and the day ends with Croydon’s Arts Quarter playing host to fantastic exhibition of local talent, live music and partying and not to forget the incredible fresh paint work throughout.

The Finished Pieces:

Fantastic work by Line and Wash depicting Cloakwork & Ashley Gan at the wall.

Work by visiting Brazilian artist Angerami, with his first work in London and put up without support from Pigment.

Fantastic pair of works by Fanakapan and Seeds One which sit so well together on the main road.

Showstopping work entitled ‘The Creation of Adam’ & based on the most iconic part of Michelangelo’s fresco painting on the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, but given that Fanakapan touch by the inspired addition of gloves and a spray can at the centre of creation. Just incredible.

Work by Gary Alford, which wins the prize with us here for most inspired piece of the day. Due to being short of time Gary Alford decided to paint a tribute to his friend and fellow artist Stik by painting a stick in one Stik’s trademark colour combinations.

Fantastic work by Perspicere with an excellent addition to his 3D string creations by turning back the top panel to make his string work appear as if it is turning a page.
