<![CDATA[New Van Jimmer Street Art in Crystal Palace]]>For our next post we are taking a look at a fairly recent addition to Anerley Hill by street artist Van Jimmer placed up for our SprayExhibition20 community street art project around Penge and Anerley at the end of the summer. This striking and thought provoking work marks the first time Van Jimmer has painted around our corner of South-East London and she certainly left her mark in style.

The slightly dark and definitely surreal work features 20th Century French philosopher Albert Camus wearing his favourite fruit hat, whilst reading the Flying Strawberry Newspaper where everyday is Judgement Day. Meaning that as the apocalypse is nigh big sales are landing on the shelves for all us consumers out there. Bubbles the monkey is joining Mr Camus and is also reading the newspaper with much interest through his half-moon spectacles – hands down our favourite aspect of this piece – whilst smoking his bubble pipe. Simultaneously technology is presenting itself as a savior on Albert Camus’ other shoulder, in the form of his iPhone who has just obtained consciousness – having taken a bite from the apple of knowledge and declaring “I. Am.”. Accompanying this absurd but brilliant depiction is a quote from Albert Camus “The only way to deal with an unfree world, is to become so absolutely free, that your very existence is an act of resistance.” All round inspiring a piece influenced for Van Jimmer setting to convey the power we have amid chaos.
