We are exceptionally privileged to have been able to have been involved in organizing what is a personal record of some 493 artworks this year – with 469 of them placed up around Penge and Anerley. With artists hitting up walls in Penge, Anerley, Crystal Palace, Forest Hill, Sydenham and Beckenham down South, as well as a few pieces in Stratford over in East London. We have worked with local artists and national artists from all around the country and international artists visiting from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Lebanon, Australia, South Africa, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy, France, Spain, the Canary Islands, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Scotland and Ireland.

Our SprayExhibition20 community street art project around Penge and Anerley continues to gain quite the reputation, as it is now the biggest Street Art project in London with over 200 artworks currently running. Our SprayExhibition20 project was also mentioned in the Guardian this year in an article about the top destinations in Europe to see street art and summed up the town and our project perfectly with “The profoundly untrendy south-east London suburb of Penge is an unlikely mecca both for street artists and lovers of their work.“

The SprayExhibition20 – The Street Art of Penge and Anerley book ourselves and Street Art Atlas made and released at the end of last year, along with the exceptionally generous art donations from Dotmaster and Irony, combined to raise £5,288.81 for St Christopher’s Hospice. Big thanks to Jane and Tom at Colossive Press for all the help on the book and accompanying fundraising tour for the hospice. Additionally we are aware a handful of people didn’t receive their book, we will be posting about providing refunds in the new year. In March we also raised £641.15 via a Street art tour of Penge for Unicef and in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Then in June we was invited to conduct a Street art tour as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Penge Festival and in doing so raised £263.87 for St Christopher’s Hospice. Big thanks to The Penge Festival for including us in the event! Thank you to ‘L’ & ‘M’ and Colossive Press for helping out on collection bucket duties on the respective tours.

However the aspect of this year that stands out the most is the incredible opportunity we have been given by the new owners and developers of the Blenheim Centre in the heart of Penge High Street, namely Clarion Housing – who we have worked with previously on a cluster of 20 spots within St Hugh’s Estate, Anerley since 2019 – and Hadley Property Group who are running the development of this location with a mind to utilize underused spaces on the top 3 floors of the multi-story car park to create the Penge Rooftop Gallery. Which to date has hosted 376 individual artworks in 10 months, created by local street artists and graffiti writers that live in SE20, surrounding towns, London and from all around the world. We really wish to say a massive thank you to Hadley Property Group for getting us involved as a local community group active in the area. As well as being so accommodating with this fantastic meanwhile project to transform this local space into a truly unique and original urban art gallery for the local community and visitors to enjoy.

As is always the case we couldn’t do what we do here without the help we receive from good friends we have made along the way and this last year was as true as ever with the amount of walls we are asked to paint significantly expanding in 2022. It is only with the invaluable help some people selflessly provide to help and do whatever it takes to keep the projects we run going. Firstly thank you to all the artists for coming down to paint spaces big and small to brighten up walls around the city. Secondly thank you to all the residents and businesses for donating spaces to let the artists work their magic. South-East London wouldn’t be looking so good without all your trust, support and time. We are exceptionally grateful to both Kevin and Street Art Atlas for constantly going above and beyond to help the artists and ourselves out around SE20, a lot of what has continued to be achieved about SE20 – and beyond – this last year has been made possible and so much easier through Kevin’s and Street Art Atlas’ selfless help to the project!
