Pam Larson Frink, curator of the White Bear Lake Seed Library, is giving classes on how to start seeds for spring planting. Learn how and when to start vegetable, flower, herb and native plant seeds. Most native plant seeds need a period of stratification (moist, cold period) before planting outside to simulate the typical fall-winter-spring season. Also learn which seeds to save from your harvest for next season’s planting.

The White Bear Lake Seed Library is a free repository of seeds which community members can take, grow the plants and harvest the seeds to replenish the seed library. You do not need a library card to take packets of seeds. The White Bear Lake Seed Library is housed inside the White Bear Lake public library and is open whenever the library is open. The WBL seed library has vegetable, annual and perennial flowers, herbs and native plant seeds. The native plant seeds may be of interest to the woodland owners since many people like to have some native plants growing in their woods or on the edge of their woods or in native landscapes.

Pam has a Horticulture degree and a Masters of Environmental Education degree. She has been gardening and teaching others about plants and organic gardening for many years. She is a member of the Wild Ones organization and grows many native plants on her own property.
