<span style="color:#000000;"> River Educators will facilitate student experiences in this national park through exploration of </span><span style="color:#000000;">natural and historical resources in a setting that provokes thought, inspires wonder, and </span><span style="color:#000000;">ignites understanding &#8211; the Mississippi River! Spanning 72 miles, the Mississippi National </span><span style="color:#000000;">River and Recreation Area has the potential to serve 50 school districts within the sevencounty </span><span style="color:#000000;">metropolitan area.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>What is a River Educator?</strong> Experienced teachers will deliver existing curriculum and develop new </span><span style="color:#000000;">standards-based curriculum for National Park Service outdoor education programs. Teachers may </span><span style="color:#000000;">also visit local schools to deliver programs. A $100 daily stipend will be offered as compensation. </span><span style="color:#000000;">Between six and eight positions will be available in 2018.</span><br />
<span style="color:#000000;"> <strong>Who should apply? </strong>Retired teachers and rangers, substitute teachers, environmental educators, </span><span style="color:#000000;">and masters-degree students are encouraged to apply. River Educators must pass a background </span><span style="color:#000000;">check and hold a current certificate in elementary or secondary education and/or have experience </span><span style="color:#000000;">teaching, substitute teaching, or working with students in an educational environment.</span><br />
<span style="color:#000000;"> <strong>When:</strong> Mandatory two-week training will be held late April and early May. Teachers will deliver </span><span style="color:#000000;">programs at least one day a week (generally between 8:30 to 2:30) during May. Programming will </span><span style="color:#000000;">continue sporadically throughout the summer, and then intensify again in the fall.</span><br />
<span style="color:#000000;"> <strong>Where:</strong> At sites along the Mississippi River in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.</span></p>
