Everyday, kids’ classes from pre-school to 5th and 6th grade came at designated times for Craft. We had different crafts planned for each day’s Bible Story and different ones that appealed to the different age groups.

Prior to the week of VBS, the head crafter, Jane, and I came in and decorated the classroom to fit this year’s theme: Blast From the Past. We created an old town backdrop out of brown paper, markers, and black acrylic paint and called it ‘Bibletown.’ Each day we added something to the town that had to do with that day’s Bible Story. For instance, one of our stories was the Red Rope of Rahab wherein a red rope was hung out a window to indicate that that house and the people within were not to be touched when the city was raided. Early that morning, we wove a red rope out of yarn and hung it from one of the drawn-on windows of the city. When the kids came in, we asked them if they noticed anything different in Bibletown. They searched the backdrop thoroughly before pointing out that there was a red rope hanging from a window. We then went on with a little bit of the Bible Story before introducing the craft for that day.

I enjoyed this experience very much and look forward to taking part in VBS again next summer!
