<p>(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) &#8211; The month of November is action-packed for the LRHS Mini Mustangs.</p>
<p>On Nov. 12 the school&#8217;s daycare classes conquered their first off-campus experience together. The students had the privilege of attending a performance of &#8220;The Hungry Caterpillar&#8221; at the Sarasota&#8217;s Van Wezel Performing Arts Center.<a href="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg"><img loading="lazy" data-attachment-id="1068" data-permalink="https://mustangsahead.com/2013/11/20/mini-mustangs-trot-off-on-first-field-trip/mini-mustangs/" data-orig-file="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg" data-orig-size="479,288" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="mini mustangs" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg?w=300" data-large-file="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg?w=479" class="size-medium wp-image-1068 alignleft" title="The LRHS Mini-Mustangs prepare to board the bus for their first field trip" alt="mini mustangs" src="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg?w=300&#038;h=180" width="300" height="180" srcset="https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg?w=300&amp;h=180 300w, https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg?w=150&amp;h=90 150w, https://lrhsnews1.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mini-mustangs.jpg 479w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<p>This field trip was a first for almost all of the children, which also means that it was their first time riding a school bus.</p>
<p>LRHS Mini Mustang teacher Cass Schutte said, &#8220;It was just as enjoyable for me as it was for them. Seeing how excited they were just to ride the bus was adorable.</p>
<p>&#8220;They were very well behaved too, which made the experience better for everyone.&#8221;</p>
<p>The play was based on the popular children&#8217;s book &#8220;The Hungry Caterpillar,&#8221; by Eric Carl. When the Mini Mustangs walked into the theatre it was pitch black and remained that way throughout the show. Puppets used in the performance were covered in glow-in-the dark paint.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think overall the students&#8217; favorite part was when the puppeteers,  dressed in all black, revealed themselves and explained to the audience how everything worked,&#8221; said Schuette, &#8220;They all got so excited and referred to them as ninjas.&#8221;</p>
<p>Schuette smiled as she recalled the joy her students experienced on the field trip.</p>
<p>The excitement continued for the Mini Mustangs even after the play when they ate a snack and were on the lookout for dolphins at a nearby marina.</p>
<p>Schuette and her Mustangs are already looking forward to their next field trip in January. They will be going back to the Van Wezel to see a performance of &#8220;Five Little Monkeys.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now that they have the field trip behind them they are planning for their LRHS Thanksgiving feast, which will take place Nov. 21.</p>
<p>Mini Mustang parents are invited to attend. Students will perform songs and present art work. A full meal will also be provided.</p>
