(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS swimmers made a splash at the state championship meet Nov. 15 and 16 in Stuart, Florida. Mustangs were awarded fourth place overall, setting a new school record.

Assistant coach Michael Johnson said, “It was very rewarding to place fourth in the state. The team has put in a lot of hard work over the season and it was evident in their great performance.”

Senior Eric Erlenmeyer helped lead the team to victory with his second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle.

Junior Luke Hanner contributed to the team by earning fifth place in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Daniel Erlenmeyer also contributed with eighth place in the 500-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Madison Jean snagged the silver in the girls 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.47 seconds. She also got fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke.

Jean said, “Going to states was such a great experience. I was kind of shocked about my times, but now I can’t wait to go back next year and get first.”

Mustang boys captured fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Daniel and Eric Erlenmeyer, senior Kevin Berkenbusch, and Hanner), sixth place in the 200-yard medley relay (Eric and Daniel Erlenmeyer, senior Jay Cho, and senior Jonathan Chaires), and sixth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Cho, Chaires, Berkenbusch and Hanner).

Jean, freshman Courtney Chapin, sophomore Malorie Schuerman, and senior Sydney Panzarino snagged sixth place in the girls 400-yard freestyle relay

Johnson said, “We had a lot of good seniors this year that will be greatly missed. It’s going to be difficult to be so successful next year without them, but I know that all the swimmers will work hard to get back to states.”
