The boutique featured the work of 400 Mustangs, with pieces ranging from jewelry to ceramics. Art teacher Terry Thompson says about half were sold.

Students were very excited to sell their work. Arianna Rodriguez, a sophomore who sold charms at the boutique said, “It’s exciting wondering whether or not someone will buy something from you.”

It wasn’t just the artists who got excited about the boutique, other Mustangs enjoyed shopping as well. Senior Lauren McDaniel, who purchased a drawing from the boutique said, “I love seeing all the art. I hear so many great things about the art program but I never really get the chance to see it.”

Customers were also impressed with the prices. The price of artwork ranged from $1 to $20. “[The art] looks really nice and I was surprised by how inexpensive it was,” said senior Chloe Hays.

The unsold artwork won’t go to waste. The leftover pieces will be displayed on Feb. 1 at Ovation in Lakewood Ranch and featured Feb. 7 at the Bradenton Village of the Arts.

Thompson was excited by the opportunity this boutique offered art students. “Students got the experience of being a professional artist as strangers fell in love with and purchased their art.”

Thompson was also thrilled with the art for sale. “I am just so impressed with the talent we have at LRHS. We have amazing, talented students and it’s great to help them develop it.”

Over $1000 was earned from the boutique and all of it will go back to the LRHS art department to help pay for supplies.

Thompson said, “I’m very satisfied. It’s wonderful to hear parents’ reaction to the fantastic artists at LRHS.”

The art department is already planning on displaying more artwork in the future. They plan to have another gallery at the end of May and will once again hold a holiday boutique come next December.
